Cybersecurity Engineer

DSU is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team. This role is critical in protecting the DSU’s systems, networks, and data from cyber threats. The Cybersecurity Engineer will manage vulnerability management programs, oversee the Security Operations Center (SOC), and participate in security assessments and audits to ensure the highest level of information security.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and provide input on secure systems, networks, and applications.
  • Develop security requirements and architecture patterns for new projects.
  • Recommend and enforce security best practices across IT infrastructure.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain security solutions such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, firewalls, SOAR, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Coordinate and oversee tuning of tools to reduce false positives and improve detection fidelity.
  • Collaborate with CSOC analysts to create and refine detection rules, alerts, and automated responses
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts with system owners.
  • Evaluate and mitigate risks across infrastructure, cloud, and application environments.
  • Partner with application teams to integrate security into the SDLC (DevSecOps).
  • Contribute to code reviews and advise on secure coding practices.
  • Design and enforce identity and access management (IAM) policies.
  • Support password and privileged access management (PAM) implementation and auditing.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of security playbooks within SOAR platforms.
  • Automate repetitive security tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Provide audit support and maintain security documentation.
  • Provide security awareness input for training programs.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Proactively propose improvements to the organization’s security posture.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in cybersecurity, including vulnerability management, incident response, and SOC operations.
  • Experience supervising technical staff is highly desirable.
  • Understanding and familiarity with security controls, standards, and frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS).
  • Familiarity with intrusion detection software and SIEM products.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networks and network security principles.
  • Experience with operating systems including Mac OS and Windows.
  • Knowledge of incident response planning and implementation.
  • Exposure to cloud services security practices, including Microsoft O365 services.
  • Ability to understand and anticipate current and future security threat landscapes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
